UC Riverside Class of 2020 Online Celebration

This is the pre-recorded video that premiered at the UC Riverside Class of 2020 Online Celebration for this year's graduating class. The online celebration, which happened June 14, 2020, was a way to salute the accomplishments of the UC Riverside class of 2020 on a virtual platform. In-person commencement ceremonies previously scheduled for May and June of this year are postponed until they can be safely rescheduled. The UC Riverside campus was ordered “closed” by the Health Officer of the County of Riverside on March 13 in response to growing concerns over COVID-19, or the novel coronavirus. Instruction switched to remote learning through the spring quarter and most students returned to their permanent residences. The online celebration for UC Riverside’s class of 2020 marks the time of the campus’ 66th commencement. The online celebration’s program, as shown in its entirety in this video, is as follows: UCR CLASS OF 2020 ONLINE CELEBRATION PROGRAM Interim Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Thomas M. Smith Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom UC President Janet Napolitano Academic Senate Chair Dylan Rodriguez Associated Students of UCR President Julian Gonzalez, B.A. degree candidate, Political Science UCR Graduate Student Association President John Haberstroh UCR Alumni Association President Jeff Krynski ’81 Chancellor Kim A. Wilcox Alumni of UC Riverside The UCR Alma Mater sung by Ashley Silva, B.A. Degree Candidate, Music UC Riverside will continue to follow guidelines established by the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention and abide by orders from California Governor Gavin Newsom and the Riverside County Public Health Officer before determining appropriate dates for the postponed in-person ceremonies. Information regarding those ceremonies will be communicated to graduating students and their families approximately 3 months prior to the ceremony dates, so that they can plan accordingly.
